IRB Review
An Institutional Review Board at the college or university sets the path for a usable study. The study will add to the knowledge base of research and academia. The study should not be bias and have the consent of participants.
Ethics or moral philosophy is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct. The field of ethics, along with aesthetics, concerns matters of value, and thus comprises the branch of philosophy called axiology.
Intellectual Property
Research may include the use of intellectual property. Intellectual property owners have exclusive rights to their property. A right that is had by a person or company to have exclusive rights to use its own plans, ideas, or other intangible assets without the worry of competition, at least for a specific period of time. These rights includes copyrights, patents, trademarks, and trade secrets.
Using intellectual property with permission is also essential to collecting and analyzing data.
Plagiarism
One of the main ethics concern to avoid in research is plagiarism. Simply put, plagiarism is the process of taking other people’s words and/or ideas and pretending that they are your own. An alternative definition of plagiarism is forwarded by the Collins Dictionary which explains that plagiarism is the practice of using someone else’s work and pretending that it is your own.
